IJM Land Helps Underprivileged Family Start A New Chapter

IJM Land’s annual Home Rehabilitation Programme (myHome) returned a newly renovated home recently to Mr. Pang Wai Keong and his family at Kampung Baru Rahang, uplifting the standard living of the family in the community of Seremban.

Mr. Pang is a 54-year-old visually-impaired man who has been facing difficulties with his limited household income and destitute lifestyle. He and his wife and two daughters has been residing in his father’s house for 36 years and Mr. Pang obtains a meager income from selling drinks at home, whereas his wife is a dishwasher at a nearby restaurant. With limited funds, the family is unable to make ends meet for their daily necessities or even to manage any repairs in their home.

Thus it was truly a blissful day for Mr. Pang and the family for being chosen as the fortunate recipient of this year’s Home Rehabilitation programme – an annual programme by IJM Land initiated in line with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s “House Build” programme in celebrating World Habitat Day since 2010.

Happiness and gratitude were evident on their faces as they were handed the certificate of completion to their newly renovated and restored home by Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager (Central Region) of IJM Land Berhad, during a special handover ceremony witnessed by special guests Yang Berhormat Puan Nicole Tan Lee Koon, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Bertindak Hal Ehwal Wanita, Keluarga dan Kebajikan, Exco & Adun Bukit Kepayang; Yang Berhormat Tuan Cha Kee Chin, Ahli Parlimen Rasah; Yang Berhormat Tuan Gunasekaren A/L Palasamy, Adun Seremban Jaya; along with Encik Mohamad bin Hapil, Pengarah Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Sembilan.

“We saw the plight that Mr Pang and his family was in, and after further discussion and inspection we made the decision to help this family, as we feel they need this boost of help and give them the silver lining: a hope to betterment for the family,” said Dato’ Hoo at the Handover Ceremony.

For the past nine years, IJM Land has successfully adopted and revamped homes around Malaysia and provided less fortunate families a better living environment with their signature CSR programme - Home Rehabilitation programme which provides basic human needs for the rural development by alleviating the burden of underprivileged families and, in line with IJM Land’s motto ‘We Make Good Better’, placing great importance in enhancing lives and always at hand to help needy in the community.

“Each year with the Home Rehabilitation programme, we would receive massive support from our contractors and suppliers, serving as a key initiative for connecting with and instilling a culture of corporate responsibility among our business associates. This year has been a great success for IJM Land and it brings us such joy to present this home as we trust this would not only improve the living conditions of the family but to also bring about change and enhance the quality of the residential environment around Seremban area,” Dato’ Hoo explains.

The total cost of repairs and refurbishment works came up to an estimated RM 50,000 with contribution from esteemed partners such as Pembinaan Duta Idaman Sdn Bhd, Golden Hover, Jotun Paints (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Chan Pui Iron Works, Bagan Prinsip, Emas Bestari Sdn Bhd, SYP Sdn Bhd, Luck Kee Construction Sdn Bhd, Pakat Makmur Construction, Tat Sheng Trading & Construction and Wing Hong Coating Sdn Bhd.
