8 Conlay: KSK Land Sdn. Bhd.’s prestigious debut

In 2013, KSK Group Bhd. ventured into the property market with KSK Land Sdn. Bhd. An established Malaysian investment holding company, KSK Group Bhd. is involved in the Southeast Asian general insurance business, with KSK Insurance Indonesia and KSK Insurance (Thailand) Public Co. Ltd. The decision was made following the aspirations of the company to deliver bespoke properties that prioritise design, craftsmanship and lifestyle over the more generic offerings of the market.

Following this decision, KSK Land Sdn. Bhd. partnered with YOO, a global design group founded by leading property developer John Hitchcox and celebrated designer Philippe Starck, and Kempinski Hotels, Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group, to envision the idea that is 8 Conlay, and bring it to life. Architects Hud Bakar of RSP Architects and Pok Kobkongsanti of TROP Studio designed the layout and landscape for the development.

Situated within the heart of KLCC on Jalan Conlay, across 3.95 acres of freehold land, KSK Land’s inaugural and prestigious development 8 Conlay comprises two YOO8 serviced by Kempinski branded residence towers, a 5-star Kempinski Hotel, as well as a host of luxury retail quarters. Representing the confluence of Kuala Lumpur’s lifestyle, fashion and luxury, the development aims to elevate the concept of refined living unlike any in the capital of Malaysia.

The YOO8 serviced by Kempinski residence towers are designed by Steve Leung & YOO, and Kelly Hoppen for YOO. Each tower expresses its designer’s individuality; Steve Leung & YOO for Tower A, and for Tower B, Kelly Hoppen for YOO; both represent the confluence of different design and ideas for the development. Once completed, it will become the world’s tallest spiralled twin residential towers.

Spiralling alongside the twin towers, the Kempinski Hotel & Hotel Residences further highlights the exclusivity of the development, being Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group. Since 1897, Kempinski brings its rich heritage of impeccable personal service and superb hospitality to its various properties in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas, in the form of historic landmark properties, award-winning urban lifestyle hotels, outstanding resorts, and prestigious residences. 8 Conlay paves the way for the first, and only Kempinski Hotel in Malaysia.

Confluential 3.0: Prêt-à-Porter

A continuation of KSK Land’s ‘Confluential’ exhibition series curated exclusively for their inaugural development 8 Conlay, the latest instalment themed ‘Confluential 3.0: Prêt-à-Porter’ draws inspiration from Kuala Lumpur’s unique confluence of lifestyle, fashion and luxury, to celebrate the true meaning of ‘confluential’, Kempinski Hotel’s coined term for the marriage of confluence, confidence, and influence, as showcased by 8 internationally-known local designers of Malaysian heritage.

The following world-renowned Malaysian designers Khoon Hooi, Joe Chia, Jonathan Liang, Ezzati Amira, Kittie Yiyi, Cassey Gan, Moto Guo, and Han Chong of Self-Portrait, a London-based label, will each showcase selected works, displaying their global trendsetting prêt-à-porter’ designs for the exhibition. Each selected work represents a story from the designers’ inspiration in life, beliefs, philosophy, and principles, aptly fitting for 8 Conlay’s theme: Your Place. Your Story.

Below are some quotes from the four designers who attended the media preview session, pertaining to what ‘Confluential’ means to them.

1. KHOON HOOI - The collection exudes confidence with its elegant lines, with Khoon Hooi’s signature feather and beadwork details adding a dash of playfulness.

2. JONATHAN LIANG - ‘Confluential,' to me, represents an abstract concept that transcends just the literal meaning of the crossing of two rivers. The two pieces we created especially for this exhibit represent a crossing of nature and society around the world, with interconnecting lines reflecting divergence and the interwoven plum blossom patterns, like flowers flowing down a river. A collaboration that stays true to the values of our brand, as well as 8 Conlay's.

3. EZZATI AMIRA - I think all of my collections area confluence of some kind –contrasting prints and influences, or feminine silhouettes and masculine elements –so that the woman wearing them will be able to find her own inner confidence.

4. KITTIE YIYI - The label is all about the confluence of loud and smart creativity, and bringing together the joy of dressing up with something that is quirky. With these two looks, one is smart and the other is feminine, but both are undeniably quirky –two ‘Confluential’ looks women can wear bravely with a sense of exploration and independence.

Confluential 3.0: Prêt-à-Porter will be open to the public until November 19 2018, at Kelly Hoppen Place (Level 5) and Level 7 at Bangunan KSK in Kuala Lumpur, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
